How did we set up digital voting for SAK?

Online voting can also be functional

Lawyers are meticulous about formalities, and we are meticulous about functional solutions. That's why we are even more pleased that the Slovak Bar Association has once again chosen us to provide the technical solution for elections and voting during the 2025 conference of lawyers.

Our goal was to ensure a reliable and secure platform for voting and elections, which would be fully functional for both in-person and online participants. We assembled a solution that combined modern technologies with an emphasis on ease of use and maximum transparency throughout the entire process.

We enlisted the help of a tool that has (when properly configured) real potential: SharePoint.

SharePoint: More than you think

For many, SharePoint is just a document storage tool. However, if properly set up, it can transform any process into a more efficient, transparent, and secure system. Including elections and voting.

Before SAK, we created complete digital voting system. The entire process – from registration, through voting, to counting the results – ran using the Opium platform.

What we've set up:

  • Individual login – so that only those who truly have the right can vote. Identity management for over 7,000 lawyers.
  • Secure and anonymous voting - via own devices as well as kiosks located on-site, including process-controlled two-factor authentication
  • Online or in person – Hybrid model, no compromises.
  • Real-time results – without waiting, without chaos, delivered digitally and encrypted to the conference authorities

Yes! For all interface processes, it was the brain SharePoint. No complex training, no need to download additional applications. Simple, functional, secure.

How did it go?

The conference was held in the Winter Riding Hall at Bratislava Castle – a dignified venue for important decisions. Dozens of lawyers were present in person, while others joined online.

Voting on procedural matters it ran on participants' own devices, directly from the browser or using a handheld - a real-time voting device.

During the day, it was happening elections to chamber bodies through our on-site kiosks or from their own devices for online users. Using the Opium hybrid event platform, interested parties could follow the conference online using their device from anywhere in the world (yes, the Slovak Bar Association also covers foreign lawyers).

Each of them was able to follow the live proceedings of the lawyers' conference and, at the same time, safely and comfortably elect representatives to bodies or vote on regulations and procedural matters. All from the comfort of their homes and without the hassle of authentication for conference participants. (These have already been verified by the attendance and registration solution for lawyers from Opium.)

Data collection and processing It ran fully automated. Everything went smoothly the entire time. No outages or complex problems. We resolved questions and technical support simply and quickly with our on-site team. Exactly as it should be.

Technology that doesn't hold you back

Our goal was to create a solution that adapts to participants – not the other way around. In practice, this meant:

  • no complicated logins,
  • no special equipment (just what you have with you),
  • no wasted time explaining what and where to click.

And what's important – the entire system remains with the client. Not an occasional application that only an external company can control. Opium. The SharePoint solution is part of Microsoft 365, so if you have it, you can continue to use it for voting, decision-making, or internal processes after proper setup.

Reliability you can choose

Ensuring the smooth execution of elections for the Slovak Bar Association was a challenge that provided us with a unique opportunity to demonstrate our qualities. It was a trust that we highly value. If you are planning a conference, elections, or simply need technology that won't let you down, we'd be happy to show you what can be built using the tools you might already have – they just need the right logic and structure. Watch the video from the conference.

If cities stopped putting out fires: 3 solutions that save them hundreds of hours today

Imagine a Monday morning at the city hall. The department head opens their laptop, needing to check the status of an investment project. They start searching through emails. Then they call a colleague. The colleague sends an Excel file – but it's not the right one. A third attempt. Fifteen minutes gone. And the project is still not clear. This is not an exception. This is the daily reality for most Slovak municipalities. In our experience, the average [...]

AI agents in companies: when software works for you

Let's admit one thing. Almost everyone uses artificial intelligence today. Some people write texts with it, some create presentations, some have Excel tables generated for them. AI has become a universal assistant: you open it, ask a question, get an answer, and continue. But while most people use AI as a handy tool, something a level higher is starting to appear in companies. An AI agent. And surprisingly many [...]

How to set up a Digital Workflow?

At Opium.systems, we love innovation, and sometimes we even „cook“ it up. One of our most unique activities, which we recently implemented at the Slovak Savings Bank's business conference, BIKOSS 2025, is the cooking show „How to Cook a Digital Workflow.“ Why did we have a cooking show, anyway? During typical digitization training or workshops, the human experience is often lacking – processes, workflow mapping, and automation are [...]

AI Agent Security - How Not to Let Your Copilot Sniff Out Your Secrets

AI agents are like Swiss Army knives in the digital world. They can read, write, connect data, send notifications, automate workflows... if you set them up correctly, they won't even forget your boss's birthday. But in the wrong hands, or without oversight? They could accidentally reveal sensitive information, modify the wrong record, or trigger a process that wasn't supposed to be released yet. Their deployment can be either a win, [...]
